Illinois House 34th District Nomination


Sister Cleopatra Cowley has reached an inspiring milestone, earning the Democratic nomination for Illinois' House 34th District. Her victory reflects the strong trust voters have placed in her leadership during a pivotal time for the state.

Throughout her campaign, Cleopatra championed unity, progress, and  practical solutions, resonating with constituents across the district. Her longstanding record of leadership and civic engagement has prepared her to address critical issues and uplift the communities she serves. With Cleopatra's dedication to economic development, education & youth empowerment, healthcare access, and community safety, she intends to provide the necessary resources and information to build a stronger community together. 

A dedicated advocate for her community, Cleopatra is also a proud member of the Phi Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® where she has provided over 25 years of uninterrupted service-demonstrating her deep commitment to service and sisterhood. Grateful for the overwhelming support, Cleopatra remains focused on delivering meaningful results and representing her district with integrity, purpose, and an unwavering dedication to public service.


Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Leadership

The Golden Apple Foundation is the leading Illinois nonprofit committed to preparing, honoring, and retaining great educators who advance educational opportunities for students. The Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Leadership honors exemplary performance in school leadership by a principal or head of school who has had a significant and sustained positive impact on the school, created a culture of inclusivity and delivered dramatic student growth. 

Phi Epsilon Omega Chapter's very own Sister Nicole Spicer has been selected as a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Leadership finalist for 2026. As the principal of Bronzeville Classical Elementary School on Chicago's South Side, striving for excellence has been second nature for her. Since starting at Bronzeville Classical in 2017, Nicole's efforts have consistently focused on improving the local standard of education and ensuring the entire community benefits from the school's presence and programs. Maintaining relationships with teachers, parents, and the Bronzeville community, Nicole has continuously been able to provide students with the educational resources needed. 

Nicole is celebrating her 25th year of continued service as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, being initiated in Zeta Iota Chapter at Western Illinois University in 2001 and continuing her service with Phi Epsilon Omega Chapter. We are extremely proud of Sister Nicole's accomplishments and wish her the best of luck as a 2026 finalist.  



Lullelia Walker Harrison Outstanding Service Award



Sister A'mari Laktzian was honored by the women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.®. for outstanding community service. A'mari is deeply committed to community engagement and youth empowerment. Her service includes organizing voter registration efforts, supporting youth leadership development through YLI programming, coordinating coat drives & back-to-school initiatives, and volunteering with organizations such as Restoration Ministries, New Community Church's Blaze Young Adult Ministry, and Bonding Beauties, LLC. 

Through her work, A'mari has helped provide meals, hygiene supplies, backpacks, and mentorship opportunities to individuals and families in need. When she is not busy giving back to the community, spending time with her family and friends, traveling, or serving at New Community Church; you can find A'mari tutoring at Mathnificent Tutoring, LLC under the direction of Mariah Lynch. Driven by a passion for service and community uplift, A'mari continues to use her leadership, compassion, and dedication to make a meaningful impact where she serves, making her most deserving of the 2026 Lullelia Walker Harrison Outstanding Service Award

A'mari is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc.®, initiated through the Gamma Psi Chapter in Spring 2022 and is currently serving in Phi Epsilon Omega Chapter. She is a graduate of Texas Southern University, earning a Bachelor's of Science in Biology.
